At Newark Townhomes, Service Coordinator Stephanie is helping make reading fun and rewarding for young residents through the new Reading Book Club.
Launched in July, the monthly reading program encourages children to read or be read to by earning a star for every book they complete. At the end of each month, the stars can be exchanged for prizes, giving kids an extra incentive to discover new stories and spend time reading.
The program has already inspired plenty of reading, with books such as The Day the Crayons Quit, Dragons Love Tacos, Goodnight Moon, Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?, and many more being checked out, read and returned.
The Reading Book Club is also bringing families together for fun community events. On August 30, residents celebrated Pajama Day and enjoyed a Let’s Make S’mores event. Children came dressed in their pajamas, brought along their favorite stuffed animals, listened to The House of Boo, and redeemed their reading stars for prizes before enjoying some delicious s’mores.
With 17 visitors in July and 10 in August, the library continues to be a welcoming space for residents to connect, learn and enjoy time together.
Stephanie plans to continue the Reading Book Club each month, along with monthly activities. September will bring fall wreath-making, with a fun fall or Halloween-themed activity planned for October.
It’s wonderful to see a love of reading growing at Newark Townhomes, one book and one star at a time.
