History of Service Coordination
Service Coordination began in 1978 on the East Coast. Today, there are Service Coordinators in 3,742 HUD assisted housing properties, as well as hundreds of tax credit communities. The benefits to the residents are real and measurable. Service Coordinators:
- Keep residents living independently
- Enhance self-esteem and self-sufficiency
- Increase safety
- Promote a sense of fellowship and a greater sense of community
- Increase the ability to meet basic life needs such as food, clothing and shelter; educational, job skills and employment needs; and meeting and maintaining financial obligations
- Increase respect for resident’s choice
